3/4G Heather Gillison
Welcome to 3/4G
Meet Your Teacher
My name is Ms. Heather Gillison and I am thrilled to be your child’s teacher this year. This will be my fifth year of teaching at Ochre Park. I live in Fort Saskatchewan with my daughter. This is such an exciting opportunity and I am thrilled to meet all of my Grade 3’s and 4’s.
Your child has an agenda and we will be using this as a way to communicate between school and home. Your child will write in it daily to let you know of upcoming events and any homework. Please review and initial your child’s agenda daily. If at any time you have questions or concerns, please feel free to write a note in the agenda, leave a message at the office, or drop in to see me.
I will be using Remind to help keep you informed about upcoming events. A sheet will be coming home shortly for you to sign up if you wish.
I have a teacher page on our school’s website at www.ochreparkschool.ca. On this page you will find updated newsletters, important dates, and links.
If you are interested in helping in the classroom, please let me know. Volunteers are always greatly appreciated.
Thank you for supplying your child with the necessary school supplies. Your child has his/her own bag of supplies that are stored in the classroom and they take from it whenever needed. A note will come home if they need to replenish any supplies throughout the year.
Our First Month
We will spend the first few weeks getting to know each other and strengthening our learning community. We will practice our daily routines and learn classroom expectations. Students will begin Guided Reading in their small groups and we will dive into components of Daily 5 – Read to Self, Read to Someone, Word Work, Work on Writing and Listening to Reading. We will also be doing components of the Guided Math program – work with teacher, centers (games/activities), work by myself (math facts), technology.
Students will work on basic sight words in class each day as part of the Guided Reading groups. There will be no formal spelling lists each week. We will do a baseline spelling test over the next few days so I can determine what skills need to be worked on during Guided Reading. A list of sight words that all students should be able to read and write at the end of the year is included in the package.
Social and Science
In 3/4 G, we will be alternating Social Studies and Science each month. This will provide more opportunity for students to do inquiry based projects involving research and presentations. Both the grade 3 and 4 curriculums go in depth and by alternating each month, it allows for greater focus and continuity.
LET THE LEARNING BEGIN!
